Farmers voices must be heard at COP26

Farmers voices must be heard at COP26
Farming has a crucial role to play in mitigating the climate crisis and at Low Carbon Agriculture (LCA) we are flying the flag and calling for farmer’s voices to be heard. Two weeks of global leader discussions, conferences, exhibitions and climate positive action will take place from Sunday October 31 and Friday November 12, and there is a limited amount of attention on the UKs rural economy and the role agriculture can have in helping tackle these issues. Farmers have a unique position in that they work with and understand the land, one of our most effective carbon sinks, they’re also readily providing innovative ways to boost biodiversity, improve water quality and are crucial in the decentralisation of the energy network, as we transition to a renewable, regenerative future. LCA will showcase the many innovative ways farmers are making great strides to become more sustainable, store carbon and power up with renewable energy. What are our partners doing to doing to raise awareness? Our partners, the National Farmers’ Union (NFU) and the Country Land and Business Association (CLA) and our supporters Linking Environment and Farming (LEAF) are members of a new ‘Agriculture and Land Use Alliance’ which has launched ‘Countryside COP’ this month, to showcase the opportunities that are available and the contribution already being made to reach Net Zero, the NFU will also have a presence at COP26 to fly the flag for farmers. As part of Countryside COP, climate champions and heads of organisations have made climate pledges on the YouTube page here. Net Zero focus at Low Carbon Agriculture Show Low Carbon Agriculture 2022 takes place on 8 – 9 March 2022, and explores ways to address climate change through the generation of renewable energy, the implementation of low carbon technology and best practice in both carbon and environmental land management. The show includes four dynamic, content-led Expos, with leading technology service suppliers, accompanied by sessions on energy storage, carbon farming, soil health, natural capital, reaching net zero, policy compliance, insight into the latest opportunities in renewables, agri-tech, and low emission vehicles, as well as our exhibition and many networking opportunities.
